Wake up call 5am ... 060109 - day 1

Yorktown sunrise to Willis United Methodist church in Glen Dale VA - 63.87 miles

Hugs and goodbyes, photos, nerves and a few tears from mom. The ride began with excited energy, we were all ready to roll! The eastern coast is littered with untouched ancient lands and tree canopies shaded our ride through much of the day. I was fortunate to completed the day spill free. A few of my new rider friends weren't as fortunate but nothing serious. We began with over water views and worked our way through field of various crops including: corn, cotton, wheat and other goodies. Don drove the support vehicle today and frequently stopped to take pictures and videos as we cruised past. The colonial parkway was a stony road which made for a bumpy ride ... this went unnoticed until we reached the smooth asphalt of the capital bike trail and 5 west. We stopped frequently for various bike related issues and/or snacks and drinks. A stop in colonial Williamsburg was highlighted by a group photo with a colonist on horseback.

We stopped for lunch at S.S. sub shop and grill ... i would later look back and wish I had eaten more. My legs tired and my empty stomach made the last leg of the day on 156 long and tough. We arrived at the church and quickly setup camp for some rest and the night ahead.
