060209 - day 2

Glen Dale to Mineral VA fire and rescue - 80.88 miles

Zack and Reagan came to visit last night before we all headed to bed. Reagan, thanks again for the subway ... I needed it! Some relax time and conversation before I retired to my single tent at 9:30pm.

Up at 6am with plans to eat more food throughout the day to keep the energy up and the legs pumpin. Congrats to the BHS boys soccer team for the big 2-1 win over Harrisonburg in the state quarterfinal. Also, congrats to Ken who last night found out via phone that he has been accepted to UCLA med school!

The excitement from yesterday spilled into today but I was a bit nervous about the extra miles that were on the schedule for today. We packed up camp and headed out. Our morning stop was at Panera and I crushed a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel. We next rode to Ashland which is apparently the home of Amtrak as we saw several pass while we rested and refueled.

Felt great all day ... the extra food paid off. The weather was hot with a few blazing sun sections. I love checking my phone and seeing the support roll through as you guys comment on my facebook updates. Keep them coming! A last stop just past Bumpass for monster freezy pops, sweet tea, ice cream sandwiches, etc. was a lot of fun as we all sat chatting about the days adventures. We finally arrived in Mineral and setup camp before heading over to eat at Big Johns Pizza. Yummy! A storm rolled through with spectacular lightening and it was suggested that we take shelter for the night in the firehouse conference room.
